Loud Victron MultiPlus 48/2000/25-32

Hello,

I have a Victron MultiPlus 48/2000/25-32 (PMP482200000).

The unit works correctly, but the fan becomes quite noticeable already at loads of around 400–500 W, mainly because of the low-speed fan humming/vibration.

The original fan installed in my unit is:

Jamicon JF1238B2HR-R
24 V DC, 0.32 A

I found Victron’s SPR00090 fan PWM converter retrofit board, which converts the fan control to approximately 40 kHz and is intended to reduce low-RPM fan noise on MultiPlus-II units.

Since my MultiPlus 48/2000 uses the same Jamicon fan found in some MultiPlus-II models, could you please confirm:

  1. Is the SPR00090 compatible with the MultiPlus 48/2000/25-32 (PMP482200000)?
  2. Does the fan-control circuit of this MultiPlus use the same type of low-frequency PWM signal as the MultiPlus-II?
  3. Would installing the SPR00090 be expected to reduce the low-speed humming/noise on this model?
  4. Is there any electrical or thermal reason why the SPR00090 should not be used with the MultiPlus 48/2000?
  5. Is there an official retrofit or alternative solution recommended by Victron for reducing fan noise on this particular model?

I would prefer to keep the original fan and cooling performance, and only improve the fan-control behaviour if possible.

It seems that the Multiplus 2000 VA is sharing a big part of the electronics of the 3000 VA after comparing both. As it is way cheaper than the 3000 VA, maybe they simply don’t want to add this model on the list and distribute this add on for free. But buying it would not be an issue for me, I just want to make my Multiplus silent.

There also are two kits so not a simple as you suggest and then there is the actual safe placement of the unit witin the case amongst various other technical considerations. Nothing stops you from approaching a dealer who may be willing to provide the device for a small shipping and handling fee only or at the listed price, but not being an official retrofit for your system, it will be at your own risk and not guaranteed to work. Also note it only improves lower rpm operational noise.
