Inverter RS Smart Solar pv input current

Hello,

In this topic i am talking about Inverter RS Smart Solar. Do not confuse with Multi RS Solar

i have noticed a possible mistake in this inverter manual (up-to-date manual version, available to download on Victron website).

In the datasheet the new version has two 3kw mppt trackers (6kw total) with 12A of operational input current and 16A maximal short circuit current (isc)

You can see it below, from the datasheet available now on Victron website:

As you may know, the previous version of this inverter only had one 4kw mppt tracker but with higher current tolerance of 18A operational input current, 20A maximal short circuit current for reverse polarity and 30A maximal short circuit current in correct polarity:

In the manual of the new version (the double tracker version with lower current input than previous generation), at the “solar configuration” chapter, they still mention 30A as being max short circuit current input (in correct polarity), contrary to the datasheet mentioning 16A.

Could Victron experts or staff members confirm that we can actually use strings of more than 16A of isc (in correct polarity) on the double tracker version of this inverter ? Or is this a mistake from Victron ? Thanks a lot

Yes you can. Just make darn sure there is not reverse polarity. It can’t protect against that. The warning box that follows is pretty explicit.

Operational input current is not the same as short circuit. So they are two different figures.

Operational means it only tracks to those amps. And wattage is voltage x amps as you know. So unless you live in very low light conditions it doesn’t make sense to overpanel to 30A at the input.

Summary

Although you will have to link the page for the two tracker Inverter RS, as far as I know there is only the one with solar and the one without solar.

Thanks for your response

Yes I know that operational current and isc are differents
