External CPI installation with RS450/100, MultiPlus and Fornius

Hello everyone, today the Consuel inspector came round and had a doubt…

I ticked IT system on the Consuel form.

My installation:

  • 1x SmartSolar RS 450/100 (2 trackers, galvanic isolation integrated between PV and battery)
  • 51.2V lithium battery (2 modules), outside the battery room, > 15kWh
  • 3x MultiPlus-II 48/6500/100 (3 identical generators) downstream of the battery
  • 1 Fronuis
  • 2 batteries of 16 kWh each
  • Declared as diagram 6a: diagram I.

So the question he has is whether an external IMD needs to be installed, because apparently they couldn’t find any documentation on the actual IMD that is supposedly integrated into the RS 450/100.

Have any of you had any experience with this?

Have a good day

This was auto-translated to me from french, so its possible i misunderstood. But if you are talking about whether the MPPT RS line has an internal PV isolation resistance check, then the answer is yes it has. See the manual

If the inspector is referring to IEC 62109-2, then the MPPT RS line does not fall within that norm, since the norm is solely for PV inverters, which the MPPT RS is not. The MPPT needs to be a physical part of the inverter to fall within IEC 62109-2, so for example the MultiRS Solar. Which is also why you can find a certificate for both IEC 62109-1 and -2 for the MultiRS Solar, but only for IEC 62109-1 for the MPPT RS.

Now at the end, if the inspector is stubborn on this, i would guess it would be easier to add an external isolation monitoring device and be done with it, rahter than to try to go through higher instances or courts.

Thank you for your replies. I’ll therefore wait to hear back from his colleagues (the council), and I’ll get back to you.
