How much can you overload a MPPT?

Hi Folks!

I started out with wanting to add solar just to keep my batteries charged when the RV is in storage…and then it grew from there!

I can get (3) 440w Panels JA Solar panels and I want to run them in parallel.

My batteries can only take 60A charging so my thinking is use a 100/50 MPPT but I’m concerned that the panels might feed it too much power. Victron seems to think it should have a 150/85 but these are pricey…and the batteries can only take 60A max anyway.

The panels are supposed to be 13.55A max current. Going parallel should mean 13.55 x3 = 40.65A so I’m not sure where the 150/85 recommendation is coming from but I’m probably out to lunch as I made the same system a few years back with 2 panels and saw it max the MPPT out at 50A in peak summer. Batteries are 12V

Any thoughts? This is my second solar install and it’s been years since I did the first…

I have a Multiplus 2x120, a Cerbo and a Shunt already installed.
