Hello everyone.

I could do with some help with our solar PV system.

For some time now, we’ve been getting the “High cell voltage: Alarm” message several times almost every day.

- We once kept the batteries charged for a whole week, and the alarm didn’t occur a single time.
- Always around midday.

The following components are installed:

- MultiPlus-II 48/3000/35-32
- Venus GX (v3.67)
- Energy Meter ET340
- Solax X1 (as the PV inverter)
- 2x Pylontech US2000

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this, and above all, what we can do about it?

Best regards,

Nico

Good afternoon,

What is your max voltage setting in the inverter and/or in DVCC from the GX?

Regards, Jeroen.

Hello Jeroen,

do you mean this setting?

 ![image](https://europe1.discourse-cdn.com/victron/original/3X/f/6/f6d508e5b00e772d78b306c9fdcb42bdf9ae5502.png)

This is how it was set up back then by the solar company, which is no longer in business.

Best regards,

Nico

How old are the batteries? How deep and often are they cycled each day?
If you aren’t experienced with these systems I would find a new company to help you.
High voltage alarms, there are many topics on this subject available via searching, can have a number of causes, from poor charging, to failing cells - something far too common on older pylontech batteries.

To diagnose this you will need some experience and help from pylontech - once you are sure nothing has changed.

The pylon config guide is here:

> **[Victron & Pylontech UP2500, US2000(C/D), US3000, US3000C, US5000, US5000B,...](https://www.victronenergy.com/live/battery_compatibility:pylontech_phantom)**

You can also pull advanced charts from VRM for cell/min max voltages etc.
If you don’t have the required technical background it can be a steep learning curve and may be better off starting here:

Good afternoon,

Indeed Nick, seen the settings, Nico needs “hands on” help.

Please, Nico, follow Nicks advise and contact asap a Victron specialist nearby.

Regards, Jeroen.

Thanks, we’ve already looked around many times, but so far we haven’t found a specialist company willing to take on the system.

The system was commissioned in October 2020, and the batteries were also manufactured in 2020.

Nothing has been changed apart from the SOC being set to 22%, but that was quite some time ago — probably last year.

First, check which charging voltage the BMS is sending to the Cerbo (CVL). It’s probably set to the value that also triggers the high-voltage alarm, as was the case with my battery when it left the factory.

Usually, limiting the charging voltage to 51.4V in DVCC should help.

Edit: Corrected the voltage following a valid objection from @dennibu

Good evening,

This pylontech balances it’s cells already at 50.4 (in the book) to 50.47V (practical), every 0.15V higher is 0.01V higher for all cells, so, Nico needs a specialist, as we see that it is to much for him to do that himself…that’s why we are looking for a service guy close to him…

Regards, Jeroen.

I’m open to recommendations in case someone would need to come out on site. The installation is in the 91xxx postcode area in Germany.

The problem is probably with the batteries and can’t be fixed by changing other settings.

You should contact your dealer/installer, or Effekta or Pylontech directly.

Thanks everyone, it was worth a try. Unfortunately, the installation company no longer exists, so I’m looking for alternatives.

I’ll get in touch with Pylontech, then. From what I’ve read, it seems they keep having faulty cells.

I used to get this message popping up sometimes for no reason, even when the batteries weren’t at 100%. It started after a Venus OS update. It disappeared with the next update. I can’t be sure your problem is the same, but it can’t hurt to update Venus OS to the latest version.
