Hello, I have a 3 phase Quattro system with felicity batteries. Previously, we were using it without a BMS and the generator would run fine. Then we installed a new felicity battery with a bms and now the generator keeps surging.Generator charge is set to 20amps. If I watch it it will surge between 12 and 13kws. I have turned on dynamic limiter, didn’t work. I’m new to this and have no idea what it could be. I don’t believe it’s a problem with the generator since it didn’t start until we installed the new battery and bms. Any ideas?
Is the generator three-phase?
Do you have more information about the system?
The whole thing should be installed properly!
Yes 3 phase system. 3 phase generator. 220v 50hz. 3 8kva quattros. I did not install it. A friend of mine did he has installed many just like it.
How did he configure the settings? UPS? Weak grid?
How much power is the genset supposed to deliver? It may be that no limit has been set here, and that the upgrade is causing an overload or that the BMS has a problem with it.
I believe we have ups and weak ac input on. Our grid is not very strong most of the time. If I understand your question correctly. We have the limits on the generator charge set at 20 amps. It’s a 22kva generator.
Good evening,
So…before no BMS and all stable, correct?
Now, a BMS and unstable, very easy, your BMS when coming close to 89-95% charged lowers it’s charge current within a flash of a second down, the generator still want to deliver as the governor is not at all that fast and so has that delay bringing power down, the quattros then limit the charge current close to zero to not get an overcharge (high voltage/current), then after a second the governor goes to “idle”, then the quattros open up fairly slowly, but then “boom” again the BMS cuts it down…so…hunting.
Verdict, first lower in the quattros the current, say, half what you have now, then test (stable now), then go up 1A and test again, till you reach again instability, then go 1-2A down again, this to overcome the radical behaviour of that BMS.
Or, simply, do not connect the BMS if you want to charge more rapid…that means less lifetime of your bats of course…as…I do not understand that you had bats without a BMS before…
A BMS can give you twice the lifetime than without…that’s why it is invented, you see?
Regards, Jeroen.
Take some photos so we can see more clearly!
Do the other batteries not have a BMS, with only one having one? Or do they all have one now?
