Frequency tracking

Hello, I wanted to monitor de grid frequency using nodered, but the frequency is stuck at 50.103 and never change.
We can see the same behavior in vrm 50.1.
So my question is: do the Multiplus really monitor the frequency or it’s just a fancy number ?
Thanks for your help

@Gabius
Are you expecting it to change?
It will if you have AC couple PV and are not connected to grid; maybe a generator that runs above or below 50 so the system synchronises to that. Otherwise it should remain at 50.

Yeah I expect it to change ( not a lot some 0.0xxx)
The grid frequency change in continue.
There is a monitoring you can see here
https://www.swissgrid.ch/en/home/operation/grid-data/current-data.html

Where are you reading the data from?
In the VRM mine is all over since we have unstable grid.

I’m reading from nodered, I will screen you what I see .
It remains the same number until the last digit.

VRM Frequency

The VRM seems to track on mine. I will run a script in node red and compare.
Confirm you are connected to grid?

Mine is varying, and I am not grid attached at the moment.

Yes I’m grid connected.
Triphase system.

If you look closely there is two values ( one under 50 one higher) so it’s strange to have the same digit
At least it’s what I see in my freq output, for the In frequency it stays at 50.10256576538086

I would expect that as I am not grid attached currently so frequency won’t be synced to the dodgy grid. I would expect a fairly stable frequency while in inverter only.

Here is one min of monitoring:

And here about one hour (don’t mind the two changes I tested to put « output freq »)

When grid attached. definitely fluctuating.

Yes, but it’s the output frequency, i’m talking about the input frequency.

I see some variation on AC in, not flat. Being VRM, it will be averaged on a per minute basis.

If I enable the widget to show the range in the sample it shows this as well (nodered would be more granular).

Can you provide the firmware version of your multi ? cause i see this this behaviour for a year or two, with 4 different multi II ( on the same location btw)
Do i need to activate something ?

v510 and v508

  1. It is likely to be more accurate with a meter.

That’s the only two values display on the output side (I want the input side btw)

The datapoints here may be further apart on the website one? Vrm logs minute to minute on mine.
The data shows changes when the grid does change. (I have it set to only changes in the messages.)

frequency

The reading right by their data source can be different to yours anyway given that there are transformers and other infrastructure inbetween as well as loads and devices that affect the frequency.in your locale.
A further thought. The grid operators will have dedicated measuring and monitoring equipment. The Victron is not a calibrated measuring instrument. So its good for a general idea of what the grid is up to and synchronises to that to do its job.

Thanks, so maybe the grid frequency is too stable to see some change  we have some hydro power plant that are maybe strong enough.

Have a nice day !
