Frequency Shifting For SMA Sunny Boy

Hi everyone. I’m in the process of commissioning a SMA Sunny Boy 3.6. I’m awaiting the solar panels but have already added the PV Inverter Support Assistant into my Multiplus II 8000 48v. I was surprised to see when my 308 Ah batteries got full that the frequency didn’t rise. Assume this is normal and when the Sunny Boy makes power, the Multiplus will notice the extra power and uplift the frequency. I use a connection from my Cerbo GX to the Multiplus Aux 1 to control AC Ignore and the Cerbo Genset settings to allow the batteries to charge from the grid during cheap Octopus Energy night rates. I believe I’m about to be told I need to set up ESS but it looks like from research online that I can have the programmable relay assistant and PV support assistant in use as long as the latter is last in the list.

If you are connected to the grid, the MP2 cannot adjust the frequency. It cannot change the frequency of the grid.

With Fronius it will instruct via network. Maybe with SMA SunSpec over IP might work.

Frequency shifting is used while the grid is missing.

Björn thank you for your response, much appreciated. I managed to get my Multiplus to frequency shift today. My voltage settings were wrong in the MP2. My Fogstar batteries were full and the two MPPTs throttled down way before the Multiplus would frequency shift.

I’m pleased to keep the AC In (AC Ignored) set up via cerbo GX relay and MP2 Aux1. I control it via the Genset settings on the Cerbo GX - mainly in winter or bad cloudy days when I simply need grid power.

My next challenge will be to commission the SMA Sunny Boy!

Thank you for your time.
