Float voltage adjustment range and nickel iron (NiFe) batteries

I’ve tried to find the voltage setting limits for the SmartSolar MPPT controllers (datasheets, manual, software docs, forums) but I haven’t succeeded. I would like to know (before buying a device and hooking it up to the app and attempting to set it) whether the battery algorithm can support nickel-iron (NiFe) batteries, and specifically whether the bulk voltage (a) can be set (it is not shown as a setting in the screenshots in the application) and (b) can be set up to 16.5 volts for a 12V nominal system (which is what the batteries require).

It’s possible that the screenshots only show the “basic” mode and not the “expert” mode, but I’m wondering where this is all documented for those of us using alternative battery chemistries or configurations?

You can download victron connect and open it in demo mode and play with settings there
Then just check with datsheets for the mppt you actually want to use to make sure it has the voltage range.

But yes all bulk and float voltages are customizable.

The bulk phase has no voltage setting since bulk is constant-current phase. What you are looking for is the absorption voltage, which marks the end of the bulk phase. On a 100/20 (48V model) set for 12V battery voltage this can be set to max 17.39V

Correct i guess the naming is a bit confusing for some.

Its just the target voltage for the absorption that is set.
So the bulk stage is constant current until target is reached then constant voltage (absorption) at that set voltage. The duration of which can be set.

Oh, cool. I already have the app for other controllers so that’s an easy way to experiment. Thanks for that info (and the explanation below as well).
