Does anyone know about this “Float charging” state? Before, it only went from absorption to float, but now it goes from bulk to absorption to float charging.
Bulk charging, the batteries are discharged enough that they could charge at a higher rate than the charger can supply. The battery voltage will be below the absorption voltage.
Absorption charging, the batteries are partially discharged and can only accept part of what the charger can supply. The battery voltage will be the absorption voltage.
Float charging, the batteries are full and float is a low voltage maintenance charge to keep them full.
If you have a 50A charger and 14.2V absorption voltage then
- If the charging is at 50A and below 14.2V, this is bulk.
- If the charging is below 50A and the voltage is 14.2V this is absorption.
It is entirely normal for batteries to sometimes need bulk and other times not.
I see what you mean now, it is probably just a word update in a recent Venus OS update. I have not seen this because my charging is listed as “External Control” as the battery BMS manages the chargers.

I found it: a loose cable and the “Adaptive + BatterySafe” field lowered the voltage because it had risen too quickly.
