Hello, I’d like to update the firmware on a 3-phase system with 3x MultiPlus 2-3000 units. What’s the best way to do this without losing all the settings? Should I first back everything up via the Victron portal and VEConfigure, then dismantle the system into 3 individual MultiPlus units, update each one separately, and finally configure them as a system again?
Yes,
first back up the settings for the three devices separately. Disconnect the GX device and update it.
Then reload the settings and transfer them to the Multi.
Why do you want to perform an update?
Especially with VE.Bus, you should know what you’re doing, or at least know how to sort things out if something goes wrong.
The settings always get “lost” if you don’t save them manually.
The update can be carried out entirely via the VRM Portal.
Don’t do it. If there’s no good reason to do so, don’t.
Especially because you do not seem to understand the process.
Take your time, go study the docs, read topics on the subject, have the right equipment available.
If you then still want to upgrade, at least you are properly prepared.
If you don’t have a Mk. 3 within reach (for example, an electrician you know has one at home), and your system has been running satisfactorily so far, you have no real reason to wreck a system that’s working well!
Of course I have an MK3 to hand — otherwise, how would I have got this three-phase setup running? I just find it really annoying having to back them all up first, then split them back into individual MP2s, flash each one separately, reassemble the group and flash the config to all three. Surely there must be an easier way???
Of course I understand the process—what’s that insinuation supposed to mean? I just want to know whether there’s an easier way. In the VRM Portal, I’m explicitly told that there’s new firmware available for the MP2s…
Just because a firmware is available doesn’t mean you need to apply it. Especially so for ve.bus devices. If it ain’t broke…
Have you had a look at the link above?
It describes updating via VRM, with all MultiPlus units being updated one after another.
