Hello!
I am installing an ESS using a Multiplus II and AGM battery bank, which also has a 2.5kW wind turbine which charges the batteries on the DC side. (I know that AGM is not economic for ESS but the turbine would ruin anything else). We are on Agile Octopus tariff.
What I want the system to do is to store the WT output until either the batteries are full, or until power is expensive, and then bleed off the excess via the inverter for our onsite loads.
I have had the ESS working without the WT, it reads Octopus prices and does pretty much what it should, however with the WT it doesnt recognise the additional input to the battery, despite voltage climbing. I guess this is because the multi does some current integration thing to keep a running total of the Ah?
So, I have a smart-shunt on order to monitor the WT (or the total battery current I/O) and am wondering what the correct setup would be to achive best results?
Batteries are Leoch 400Ah at 24V. Turbine is an old Proven WT2500
Any help appreciated!
Thanks
Simon
It is best to install the shunt as a normal battery monitor so it can see everything entering and leaving the battery and calculates an accurate SOC.
The challenge is being able to control the WT, there are a few posts on the subject on the old and current forum.
Using node-red you could enforce some additional control if the charger is accessible.
Thanks Nick
Once we have the SoC monitored accurately by the SmartShunt, can we then set the system to bleed off excess power above a certain SoC? Is this the ‘Bleed off excess PV’ seting?
Thanks
Simon
ESS by default will use the DC power to power loads above the set minimum SOC.
You can of course get more creative and use node-red, or other external tools, to trigger smart switches that start loads above specified SOC.
