Earth for Orion XS in T5 camper

Hi,

Silly question, but new to this so please be kind. I would like to swap the split charge relay in my T5 for a B2B charger as I move to lithium and have seen the Orion XS. Good choice?

I note that it needs an earth to the charger and an earth from the battery. The current SCR set up has an existing earth point the battery, bolted to the rear wheel arch. Can I run the earth from the charger to the same point as the battery earth as the controller will be sited at the rear of the van with the leisure battery?

Also, I would have to mount it on the wooden furniture inside a cupboard, so would I need a metal plate to protect the wood from the heat of the charger?

My other option is the engine bay next to the stater battery, but presume this is no advisable?

Yes, you can connect the negative of the Orion to the negative chassis connection, just make sure it is clean and the wire is adequate. The negative wire with the Orion does have to cater for some current flow unlike the negative vonnectikn on a VSR.

Make sure that the cables ( positive and negativ can handle the 50amps, also the alternator can deliver this current.

The unit generates very little heat. If you’re concerned about a fault, you can place a piece of Fermacell board underneath
