DVCC Setup and Shared Temperature Sense (STS)

I have been looking to enabling DVCC on my motorhome system.

My setup is on screenshot below, all on latest software. I have 600w of sola, Battery is Fogstar Drift 608ah with internal BMS, heater and temp sensor. Not networked.

I also have a wired temp sensor on the negative battery pole just to keep an eye on rough temps of battery and the general area in electrical cabinet connected to Cerbo GX MK 2, I also have a lynx distributor, and an additional Orion tr isolated to supply some more sensitive devices but not networked.

Question is do I need to utilise the battery temp sensor for STS given the battery can already manage the charging internally from its internal BMS sensor even though it can’t communicate that back to dvcc.

Reading conflicting views on the use of sensor within this type of dvcc setup, and weather I should select it in the sts setting

There is no definitive answer. On lithium batteries such as Fogstar it is not an indication of the cell temperature as often the terminal to BMS / cell is only a piece of wire, it is therefore an approximate reading.

You do not need temperature compensation so there is no need from this perspective.

The BMS handles high and low temperature cut off to protect cells so no need from this perspective.

The only reason is if the battery and MPPT locations are at radically different temperatures and you want to use the MPPT low temperature finction to stop charging, the battery terminal will be a better indication than the MPPT internal temperature but you will still be prone to a mismatch so the MPPT may be held off with a cold terminalwhile the cells are above 5degC.
