Hello, I put my rig inside for just a short time and I ‘thought’ that there was a battery protect mechanism in place. They went into ‘deep discharge’ and I can’t get them charged again with a generator of pulling it out into the sun ( I have 1460w solar) So are the batteries a complete loss or ??. Thanks for any advice, this is all new to me so explain things simply.
Lithium batteries I assume. Likely they just need a forced 12V connection to wake up the BMS. It can be as simple as connecting another 12V battery to them with jumper cables for a couple of seconds. The reason your solar or generator won’t charge them is because they don’t recognize any voltage.
The BMS going to sleep is your protection. Without it your LFP batteries would be dead or severely compromised. I would double check that all your loads are disconnected when putting your rig in storage. Better yet keep the rig plugged in so it charges or use a small battery maintainer like a Bluesmart IP65. There are indeed several (configurable) protection mechanics available. Minimum Soc, Voltage based cut-off, BMS communication etc.
Unless you misconfigured or disabled all of them, this may also indicate a fault with your battery and “deep discharge” is just your assumption of what happened?
At the very end each BMS itself usually turns of the contactors to prevent a deep discharge. To figure out, why your BMS is not reconnecting to allow charging you would need to add more information about your overall system.
Usually the BMS restores connectivity, when it detects a high enough voltage to charge. If you have a zerofeedin or offgrid environment the DC Bus Voltage may just not raise high enough to trigger that.
If you have a grid, you could try to enable dc feedin, that will raise the DC Bus Voltage a bit, and eventually wakes up the BMS.
Yes, I have a full Victron system with lithium batts. The main controller panel will not come on, theres a smaller panel underneath is and scrolling through that I get the ‘deep discharge’ message. I presumed using the 30amp shore connector to a 30amp generator would start charging them, but over an hour later, the main panel would still not come on. If 30amp/4800 watt gen doesn’t wake them up I’m not sure a 12v battery would?
I did not build the system, and know next to nothing about it. The main panel information is not coming on. Hmm, then your best shot is probably to talk to whom build it. He should be aware of all details and settings that may be related.
Do you have pictures of them?
Does this include Victron SmartLithium batteries? Or are the batteries from another manufacturer?
