I’d like to know whether anyone has implemented a setup involving an inverter and a conventional generator, where the inverter follows the generator’s waveform, and which equipment worked for you. Does the generator need anything else for this to work? Without a grid, it would be a microgrid.
Victron Quattro and Multiplus inverters will by default synchronize with the generators wave form. They will synchronize their wave form output with the generators once the input has stabilized.
If you mean the AC out of the inverter AC coupled to the output of the generator, then NO this is not currently possible with Victron equipment.
ESS mode (Inverter feeding out of AC in), is not recommended with a generator / microgrid set up, as preventing back feed to the generator is difficult.
The feed in regulation of the ESS is not fast enough to prevent feedback to the generator in all circumstances. It is rate limited by specification for connection to grid systems. If you want an AC coupled microgrid, then there are other manufacturers that do this, Victron is working towards this.
