Multiplus II 48/5000 120V - note I’m using this inverter as the 3000 was a little too close to the edge for my potential loads.
Victron docs say to use 2AWG wire for AC1 Out - I assume this is due to the inverters ability to deliver towards 115 or so Amps with power assist if attached to its maximum shore power.
In my application I do not plan to use shore power when operating - or if so, 15-20A circuit at max. Regardless, my AC loads will not reach 60A - much less 100A or more.
Do I really need to be running 2AWG cable from the AC Out? Or should I just use a 50A or maybe 60A breaker and 6 AWG (or 4 AWG if 60A breaker). I’m all for over-engineering, but the combination of the wire gauge and breaker and then enclosure for the breaker and such are becoming an issue from a space perspective - and of course its more expensive…
If you are not ever planning to use power assist, then I would recommend using #6 Thhn. #6 is good for 55 amps and can be protected by the next higher available standard size breaker per the NEC. Which is a 60 amp breaker.
thanks - its not so much that I would never use PowerAssist - as i will certainly never be using it with 95A input to the inverter - my near-term use-case will be 20A input max - will have a 30A outlet on the trailer - but I plan to size the wire so I could go to a 50A in the event I find myself in the future at events where there is 50A shore power outlets… that said, I’m going to currently place a 30A breaker on the AC-in side - and 6ga wire to be ready to swap in the future to 50A breaker / inlet if needed.
And for the AC-in side - think what I have narrowed down to is that I am going to use a pigtail from the inverter to a closely mounted breaker at 50A - and from the breaker run to my AC distribution panel at 6 AWG. Likely going to use 4AWG from AC Out to the breaker (or more specifically from the AC Out to a WAGO block that can be used to connect to a pigtail for AC-in in the event I need to wire around the inverter for some reason temporarily
