Trying to charge a different voltage battery bank as spare capacity using a pair of Orion xs 1400s. Have them responding well to Node Red on/off, but they don’t want to respect the voltage limit (2nd/backup bank is significantly lower V). The Orion keeps defaulting to external control (fine), but it tries to run system voltage even though the limit managed voltage is turned off and the Orion is set properly. I’ve tried to force it using both /settings/chargeVoltage and /link/chargeVoltage as well with no luck.
If your second bank has a lower voltage, then you need to stop DVCC from controlling the orions - though this may also involve disconnecting them from the Cerbo, and controlling them by relay / remote function.
Limit managed voltage is designed to cap the max system voltage to a lower value than requested by the BMS - essential for some Pylontech systems.
Otherwise, If DVCC is enabled, the voltage limit set will be that requested by the BMS.
Bummer, that’s what it looks like. The real bummer is that it’s mostly a remote system. If I disconnect the unit from ve.direct (the cerbo), then I’ll lose the Node red controls as well.
Update here:
If you access the Orion from the devices list in the Cerbo, in the settings you can tell it you are charging another battery from the system battery. This will disable bms control of the unit. When the Orion loses the bms, it will shut down because it is looking for the bms, but a factory reset will bring it back and you can set the charge profile directly. You can still see it in VRM and control it with Node Red.
