Hi all,
I’m trying to connect an older Carlo Gavazzi EM24-DIN.AV9.3.X.IS.P energy meter (manufactured in 2009) to a Cerbo GX MK2 via the RS485-to-USB interface, but dbus-cgwacs disconnects immediately after detecting the meter.
Setup:
- Cerbo GX MK2, Venus OS (current firmware)
- Carlo Gavazzi EM24-DIN.AV9.3.X.IS.P, manufactured 2009
- Connected via Victron RS485-to-USB interface on
/dev/ttyUSB0 - Wiring, address (1) and baud rate double-checked against the manual
Log output (/data/log/dbus-cgwacs.ttyUSB0/current):
*** starting dbus-cgwacs ***
INFO dbus-cgwacs v2.0.30 started
INFO Built with Qt 6.8.3 running on 6.8.3
INFO Connecting to "/dev/ttyUSB0"
INFO Wait for local settings on DBus...
INFO Local settings found
INFO Device ID: 45
WARN Unknown device ID, disconnecting
The meter is clearly responding on Modbus (it reports Device ID 45), but the driver disconnects because this ID isn’t in its recognized list. From what I understand, the EM24 RS485/Ethernet variants are usually expected to report ID 71 or 72 — this looks like a much older hardware/firmware revision from 2009, possibly predating the ID scheme Victron currently supports.
Questions:
- Is device ID 45 a known/legacy Carlo Gavazzi EM24 identifier?
- Is there any Venus OS version or
dbus-cgwacsbuild that includes support for this older ID? - Would updating the meter’s internal firmware (via Carlo Gavazzi’s UCS software) change the reported device ID, or is this baked into the hardware revision?
Any pointers from Victron staff or from anyone who’s run into an old pre-2010 EM24 would be very helpful. Happy to provide more logs or a full Modbus register dump if useful.
Thanks!
