Can we use internal transferswitch of Multiplus/Quattro to provide same function as Filax

Dear all,

kindly seek for advise. I want to use the Grid as backup only. Feeding anything back to Grid strictly disallowed. Actually solved via Filax as external transfer-switch in below drawing. The Filax ensures that nothing is fed back to the grid at all. Wondering if the internal transferswitch of either the Quattro or Multiplus can provide same functionality without requiring an external transfer-switch?

As I am total new to Victron, any config-guidance would be very much appreciated.

many thanks

christian

Good evening,

A very good question Christian, you are one of the few who ask before buying/installing, secondly, welcome to the best inverter/solar forum in the world.

Well, your question is solved right here, the answer is yes, both the Multi and the Quattro can be set to “not deliver to the grid” easily as that is a build in function, bog standard.

The Multi is basically for a house (small ship), only one grid input no generator (or viseversa), if a generator also then the Quattro as it has 2 inputs, grid and generator, or to save money a bit, a Multi with a filax does the grid and a generator also.

So, forget the filax, just buy the inverter you plan to buy through a Victron Service Point, as then you will get the needed specialist assistance from them what to do and/or help, and of course they will bring you in contact with an experienced installer who can build whatever you want.

One thing, before you buy anything, let the Victron installer and or Victron distributer fine tune your needs first (of course entirely for free), this to save money and not to be disappointed buying and inverter which is actually to small or way to big, do not buy from these internet companies, as these just sell without any technical back-up and even create guarantee issues sometimes.

Victron is a great product, for me the best, 5 years warranted, and for a little more while buying 10 years, but, I know installs which went only to scrap after 25 years, not because it malfunctioned, the vessel itself went to scrap, therefore in India and Turkey you see these old beasts for sale…best product in the world, I run several shore installs, we (colleagues, many more shore installs), besides our IMO (pro vessels) some are way over 25 years now….

With the very best regards, Jeroen.

Dear Jeroen2,

many thanks for kind and informative answer. I will go for it:)
