Hi team - being able to update the consumption forecast in VRM is a fantastic feature.

As winter rolls near for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, I would also love to see the option to adjust the solar forecast (or simply a button to say “no PV today”).

This would be particularly helpful on days after snow fall, when panels are covered but sun is still shining.

Thank you!
AP

Today I was thinking about the same thing. But maybe not in a sense that the production forecast should be editable, but maybe some sort of toggle switch to tell DESS to not plan for solar production due to snow on panels. It should not deactivate MPPTs and still allow to charge the batteries or feed to grid if snow melts, but just don’t plan that there will be meaningful solar production. This would also prevent machine learning to screw up future solar production estimates as during snowy times panels would produce way less than predicted if at all.

I guess it’s possible to create a node-red flow that uses the VRM API to retrieve the projected solar forecast, and then adds that exact amount to the consumption forecast (cancelling out the solar, essentially).

Curious if @Barbara has any thoughts on this as well…

We are working on exactly the feature @Slowmo proposes: quickly clicking a button to indicate there won’t be solar today (due to snow, leaves)

And that button will remain active until turned off? Because usually if there is a snowfall, there could be weeks with no solar production.

Hey!

That is a good tip actually, I’ll pass that on to our designer.

We made a little Home assistant that does exactly what you want.
We use open source weather data 1h intervals with cloud cover and visibility, together with battery sensors and Victron sensors. Exceptionally accurate 1h to 3day forecast is achieved.
We just purchased two Solarsense250’s, and plan to add solar excess warnings to the forecast. We found that the best is your approach, not to actively switch loads, so we send phone alerts.

Let me know and I can add you to our tailscape, to see how it works

It has definitely saved us many times in South African winter. Its also good to
