6k5: Dynamic current limiter - physical Relay/Contactor?

Good morning,

Im planning a setup with a Victron 48/6k5 (for power assisting) and a Honda EU32i to supply a mobile PA speaker setup.

In the past we used the EU32i and a 12/1200 (for power assisting) which was not up to the task, as we are experiencing big inrush currents (~300A pulled on the 12V rail and the 1200 complaining of being overloaded).

Now since we should have sufficient inverter capacity with the 6k5 I started thinking about using the “Dynamic current limiter” function. Which would be perfect for our needs, since it can relief strain from the generator. But what caught my eye was that there is a backfeed contactor mentioned. Is this really a physical contactor or a semi-conductor? Because in our case this would (in my understanding mean) that this contactor inside the multi would open and close like 120x per minute (with 120 bpm music)? This way no physical contactor would last very long…

Dynamic current limiter

Intended for generators, the AC voltage being generated by means of a static inverter (so-called ‘inverter’ generators). In these generators, engine rpm is reduced in case of low load: this reduces noise, fuel consumption and pollution. A disadvantage is that the output voltage will drop severely or even completely fail in the event of a sudden load increase. More load can only be supplied after the engine is up to speed.

If this setting is ‘on’, the MultiPlus-II will start supplying extra power at a low generator output level and gradually allow the generator to supply more, until the set current limit is reached. This allows the generator engine to get up to speed.

This setting is also often used for ‘classical’ generators that respond slowly to sudden load variation.

Just like your previous MP the new one of course has an internal transfer relay (two in series in case of an MP2). If that one opens, then that means that the AC supply from the generator was rejected. In that case, no ACin current limit is in effect anymore.
