Connecting more power to a 100/20 MPPT?

Hi everyone,

I still have quite a bit of equipment lying around that I’d like to use. The four Trina Vertex S panels, rated at 395 W each, are already here, and I also have two MPPTs. So I’d like to see whether I can make sensible use of the equipment I already have before buying anything new.

I have the whole setup twice.

My idea is to connect four modules to one MPPT 100/20 in a 2S2P configuration — that is, two modules in series, with the two strings then connected in parallel.

This gives me approximately:

1,580 W

Vmp approx. 68 V

Imp approx. 23.24 A

Voc approx. 82 V

Isc approx. 24.42 A

Can I run this on the 100/20, or is that already too much for the controller on the PV side?

I also have a MultiPlus-II GX with Pylontech batteries. I have a Lynx lying around as well, and I’d like to use that in the setup too.

So my main aim is to make as much use as possible of the equipment I already have and to find out whether this combination with the 100/20 is OK.

If you use the Custom Panel Settings toggle on this page, you’ll be able to add the Trina panels and it’ll tell you if they compatible with 2S2P

Of course, because of the higher amperage, it shows the 150/35.

In my configuration, I come to 24 A.

The question, of course, is when this maximum value is reached. As far as I’ve read, the MPPTs can handle higher amperage. In that case, 4 A would be lost, which wouldn’t matter at all since that would be the maximum value.

Just do not overstep the voltage because although amperage is clipped voltage is not.
More than 100V will damage the MPPT.

Manual states :
8.5.6. PV voltage too high

The PV voltage should always stay within the maximum rated limit of the solar charger, as indicated in its product name, type plate and Technical specifications [62]. The solar charger can sustain damage based on the extent of the PV voltage height, and it’s important to note that such damage is not covered by warranty.

That much is clear to me.

The tension lies in the underlying configuration.
