MPPT RS 450 /100 voltage limit confusion

The Victron Excel MPPT Calculator ( https://www.victronenergy.com/support-and-downloads/software#mppt-calculator-excel-sheet ) gives a Max voltage for the RS as 432V and not 450V as given in datasheet and online MPPT calculator. What is the correct value

Hi @merle.peter,

Both are correct, depending on target battery float voltage :)

I have done my best to explain the situation in this Solar Array configuration section of the MPPT RS manual - please give it a read first, and if it's still not clear I would be happy to try and explain it from another perspective to see if that helps further:

There is a note '1' that says the max voltage can not be higher than 8 * Battery Float voltage or 450V whichever is lower.

What is the maximum allowable if battery is disconnected ? for example if wiring or fuse failure - float is zero

If the battery is disconnected then the MPPT RS will keep the DC battery terminals of the device at the programmed float voltage. So the PV array design would still need to conform to those specs of the MPPT calculator.

Will device protect itself if it goes slightly beyond the limit ?

The device absolute hard upper limit is 450V - PV input voltage should never exceed that under any temperature conditions, and if it does exceed 450V, then the device is very likely to be damaged and fail.

Regarding the variable lower limit based on the battery float voltage ratio, the device will shut down with an error if it cannot reduce the battery voltage below the target float voltage. That error will clear without device damage.
