Is it possible to pull the positive lead to my TR Smart DC_DC charger from the starter on my VW Westfalia instead of running from the start battery to the charger saving wire run?

Yes you could do that if it's just a wiring thing. Make sure the 'earth return' you'll presumably be using is done properly too.
Thanks for the response. My thought was to share the engine to chassis ground strap location.
