Help with reading BMV-712 over VEDirect with Emon Pi

Hello,

I have the BMV-712 connected to an emonPI via the VE direct cable. Using the monitoring tools from python, I am able to get a constant feed of data from the USB / Serial port.

However, the emon pi code has issues reading the data consistently and/or syncing up the feed.

Full details of this can be found here: https://github.com/openenergymonitor/emonhub/commit/f3508336e38267a569e8f72e1b2e090c7d405690

I am trying to get a dependable feed into the emon pi so that I can not only have all the data from my solar system in one place but also so I can use Node Red to control demand based on Load and/or SOC.

Any help would be appreciated. As mentioned in the original thread, I will still give 50$ via PayPal to whoever can get this working consistently.

Thanks,

Tony

How familiar are you with the VE.Direct and VE.Direct Hex protocols?
There is documentation on these at the bottom of the whitepapers page here:
https://www.victronenergy.com/support-and-downloads/whitepapers

Hopefully there is information there that can help you.

Thanks for the reply. My understanding is that this software was written for the lower level units and works fine with them. However, the code is failing with the 712 model. Is there something different with this unit?
