need help getting Colour Control GX online please

Hi there, I am a pv installer but this is the first fully off grid system I have installed. it is a 7.5 kW pv array with a Victron 15kW Quattro inverter also a Color Control GX monitor. I have installed an after market Tenda wireless network adaptor which first I setup with the wifi network name and password using my laptop. Then I plugged it into the back of the GX unit into the USB Host socket. The trouble is, nothing happens, I don't seem to be able to get online. The GX came with no instruction booklet in it's package, just a two page leaflet- unlike the inverter and the battery monitor, both which came with a thick instruction booklet.

Can anybody help me please. I am currently at the site, trying to get it online (the client would like to monitor things from his phone via the Victron portal.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @PaddyGlenny,

I think the CCGX manual is now longer than the MultiPlus manual, though it does not come printed with the product. It is available here:

https://www.victronenergy.com/live/ccgx:start

The specific relevant sections of the manual for your issue are:

https://www.victronenergy.com/live/ccgx:start#internet_connectivity

It is not sufficient to setup the wifi adaptor on your laptop. Local network credentials will need to be setup via the wifi menu of the GX.

It is also a risk to use a wifi dongle other than those specified as compatible (which are available through your Victron Dealer with the rest of the equipment). The Tenda adapter may, or may not work.

and once connected to the network/internet:

Thank you so much for such a prompt reply. I'll go and look at the manual right now!

Almost certain it is the dongle. I found an older g only unit to surprise me working, but not any newer single "non approved" unit so far. The new ones do however work with my laptops etc.

Thanks for that. Indeed, I suspected it might be the dongle in as much as when I was setting it up on my laptop, the little red led was flashing away merrily. Once inserted into the back of the CCGX unit, nothing, no flashing led, zero visible activity. I've ordered the Victron item.....
