VictronConnect shows battery voltage around 12.1, but a multimeter on the battery terminals themselves and on the MPPT 100/20 charge controller's battery terminals both show 12.8. Defective unit?

Thanks, it turned out to be a bad multimeter.
Two posibilites here
1. the testing volt meter is not correct, as a lot these cheaper meters can give incorrect readings
2. then the MPPT unit is faulty, take it back for testing/ replacement. ( I see very few to nill mppt units with this sort of issue)
3. MAYBE have you anything else conected ie tempature compensation for battery charging, is the regulator in a hot place, are the batteries and the regulator at the same tempature. etc ceck all the settings using the victron connect app
It seems this is resolved, but just to add further possibilities to anyone reading this in future with a similar issue:
4. it’s possible cable from battery to charge controller is too long and/or thin causing unacceptable losses and hence lower voltage reading at the controller.
