Direct support?

After purchasing some rather expensive Victron products for my boat, these from several distributors, I realized (too late!) that direct support from the manufacturer is unavailable. In fact, one of them (I won't name yet) is simply failing to give my question the respect of a simple reply. I'm convinced the distributors are inadequate support providers. Crowd-based support seems shaky and unreliable. As these are Victron's product and applications support structures, I'd suggest this is not a winning strategy for such a highly technical and expensive product line.

I feel as if out on a thin limb: my system needs a few other pieces to complete it, while my experience of standing alone without help grows, and lowers my confidence. Now I'm seeking alternative products, while very concerned about interfacing with different equipment.

I read the posting guidelines and with some disappointment that discussion of whole systems and design problems are discouraged, while this is precisely the kind of help and advice I need! So I am also further prevented from getting answers and system design advice.

Other than here, with single and brief questions whose answers are not directly from Victron, where can I go for help?

No offence but you are way to negative. The "Crowd-based support" here is outstanding with even Victron staff answering questions and/or taking issues seriously.

You might not know it now but your boat has the best equipment there is. If you need assistance then this is the right place.

The apparent negativity is due to a two month fiasco trying to get a part from Victron and subsequent lack of answers/response from both Victron and a distributor on some questions. Difficult to hide.

Victron might take an interest when a customer is unhappy and strive to do better.

"After purchasing some rather expensive Victron products for my boat … while my experience of standing alone without help grows"

When you have a boat you should be prepared for that especially when you're going to sea. There will be times when you have to solve serious problems without anyone there who could help you. Learning to solve problems yourself is vital here and as Einstein said:

"The only source of knowledge is experience".

My advice is: get the manuals of all equipment you may need, read them and take notes of everything that seems important. Then search for information on what is unclear. If you don't find an answer for a specific question then post it.

There are plenty of design questions here, design is just a nuanced process that is not easily done via the internet where opinion reigns supreme and quality varies.

Good installers are usually the best way to go, unfortunately there are bad apples and this isn’t unique to this industry nor brand.

Feel free to post here on questions and answers you may find what you need.

There rarely are new questions, so spending some time using the search bar may already fill in some gaps.

If you planing to build a system you should look for a (local) Victron seller/installer before you start buying each part on different places.

https://www.victronenergy.com/where-to-buy

A good seller/installer will help you if you buy the devices from him or you pay him for the support.

No seller/installer can or will you give you free support if you didn't buy at last some parts from him.

Victron simply doesn't have the manpower to answer every customer question directly.
Because of that the sellers/installers are supposed to give support.

The purpose of the community is to help you if you have a specific question/problem with a product, not to help you designing your System.

For most products Victron has very detailed manuals and other documents, just look at the product pages.
There are also many schematics available (just look for your products):

At Victron Professional you can also find some training and tutorial videos:

Speaking of videos, there are also many many videos available on YouTube.

Yip, unfortunately most of the unhappiness originates when an end-user decides to tackle a project they are ill-equipped to do and prioritise saving a buck ahead of seeking a professional with good references. No community can compensate for poor decision making. Fail to plan, plan to fail.

@K1MGY have you considered approaching a marine electrician for asistance? I can assure you that distributer support is quite good for industry specialists. I mention a marine electrician as sometimes boat electrical configurations are quite specialised.
