6 Modules serial with 250 or parallel 3x2 with 150 ?

Hi,

i would like to to wire 12 identical Axitec 415wp (Axipremium XXL HC BLK) modules -> RS450 does not fit very good based on the excel calculator, so i have to go for smartsolar. No shadow, all 12 modules pure perfect sun in perfect orientation.


Doable is 1x6 (250/60) orr 2x3 (150/60)

2x 150/60 is around 300Euro cheaper than 2x 250/60.

System is 48V and another large AC inverter exist as well with 3 Multiplus.
Is there any disadvantage going with 2x 150/60 ?

I can't see any disadvantage in going with 2 of the 150/60 regs except for larger cable size on the solar side of the reg as will be twice the current as the 250/60 situation. You'll also need some way of paralleling the two strings of 3 panels together. If they have MC4 connectors you can use MC4 parallel plugs.

I looked up your PV...38v/14a if I read it right.

If you go with 4 strings of 3 panels that gives you 114v / 56a total. That is kinda cutting it close when you are talking ideal conditions and you might exceed the 150/60.

I have the MPPT 150/70 which would give you a nice safety margin/cushion. So you might want to consider the 150/70. And I use 2AWG from MPPT to batteries, fuse and switch.

Something to think about.

Thanks for your reply, you would add 12 modules to one MPPT ?

The "issue" with 3 parallel is i have just one cable (6mm, about AWG 9.5) and i cannot add more without creating a huge construction site -> and 3 parallel is up to 40A -> MC4 connector on the roof are just certified up to 30A.

2 AWG -> i will use 35mm as the maximum is for the MPPT.


250/85 as the online MPPT calculator proposes:

I don't understand why is the website not proposing 250/100 (100 Euro/USD more than 250/85)? Because even that model is limiting / saturating in power (A) ?

If i am not completly wrong, the modules will be most of the time between 10 and 45 C° -> so capped .

If i follow the Victron MPPT webseite is recommends 85. 85A / 12 Modules is 7,08A per Module which means the MPPT is capped when ~ 500W/m² irridiation, correct ?
