How many Pylontech US5000 are recommended from a performance perspective

Heya,

I have (is due to be installed) the following:

  • 16 x Hyundai 485W HiE S485VI panels
  • 2 x Victron MPPT 250/100-Tr VE.Can
  • 1 x Victron Quattro 48/10000/140-100/100 230V VE.Bus
  • 1 x Victron Cerbo GX
  • 1 x Victron GX Touch 50
  • 1 x Victron Battery switch ON/OFF 275A
  • 1 x Victron Energy Meter ET112 - 1 phase - max 100A
  • 1 x Victron Lynx Distributor
  • 1 x Victron Lynx Shunt VE.Can
  • 3 x Pylontech US5000 batteries

What do you think about this configuration (panels will be mounted on ground facing south)?

Also what is the number of batteries recommended from a performance perspective given the above setup?

Thank you

Each US5000 module is rated for a recommended current of 50A.
A 10kVA Quattro could draw ~200A at it full rating, probably more for short periods of time.
So I would say 5x US5000 modules would cover the requirements safely.

Guessing you're mixing up the US and UP 5000 models. US5000 is rated for 100A max continuous, with 80A recommended.

Performance is relative....

With the 16 panells you could generate 30-40+ Kw/h... or 6-7 Kw/p less in winter

But what is your load / consumption overnight and during the day?

What are your peak loads what is expected to remain in solar production after consumption during the day to fill batteries.....

If usage is only 5Kw/h at night 3-4 5000 is ample ...

Like @WKirby wrote to use the multi full tilt 5 5000 prob min. and serious cables.

But then if one throttles the max output to extend life of equipment etc. ....

SOC between 100 -10% or rather 100 - 40 % .....

Give us some more ideas on what you want / need to achive...

Thanks a lot @WKirby and @Lifeingalicia .

Just got the system up and running for 1 week now and 3 days on offgrid. In the end I went with US3000C (4 of them) as the US5000 are almost impossible to be found in my country. Every morning one of the batteries are going in alarm state with "Internal error: alarm" message, if I go an stop and start it everything is fine for a day or two and then happens again. I'll be adding today 3 more so I'll have 7 batteries US3000C which should cover the max of how much 10kVA Quattro can draw.1666319904258.png

I read something about this behavior in a German pv community. This is an issue of one of your batteries. It has nothing to do with your configuration. You have to contact your dealer or Pylontech. As far as I know, the BMS of this battery is not ok.

Hi

Did you check that each bat had the same or similar charge?

Had this problem when I connected a new bat and did not balance it.

It took a week of cycling with the odd 512 alarm now its fine.

I also restricted the max charge voltage for a while to 52.4v to prevent overshot.

@Lifeingalicia yep, all of them were balanced before adding them in the mix also the charge voltage is set to 53.2v (should I increase this over time?)

Wondering if the Shunt is messing things up. I see conflicting info between the Pylontech BMS and the Lynx Shunt (don't really know why the installer added the Shunt as it makes no sense)1666367078332.png
