Venus Digital Inputs

I just noticed that the Venus GX allows for digital inputs via RJ12 socket. I feel a bit dumb asking this question but how does on get a device (e.g. bilge pump) connected in to a RJ12 socket? Is there a digital input device which i would connect deceive like this to, and then connect to the venus per the RJ12 cable.

Any information you could provide would be great, i would love to use this future but just dont have a full understanding how.

It's all here:

Basically: you can connect a switch between the ground pin and one of the inputs of the RJ11.
Works great.

I have also just made a change to that manual that @boekel has linked to:

https://www.victronenergy.com/live/venus-gx:start#digital_inputs

I am quite open to suggestions for how it could be further improved or clarified. Such as rough sketch diagrams, photos of installations or descriptions.

Thanks! A bit more specific, would something like this work?

For example with a bilge pump would i run a wire from the bilge positive to the RJ12 digital 1 input? Would i then connect the ground to the main ground? (sorry but this is where i'm getting a bit confused).

No you never connect a bilgepump or anything that's not isolated from everything.

what you can do is:

-use a separate float switch wired to the digital input

or

-use a relay in parallel with your existing bilgepump to provide an isolated contact for the digital input.

@Guy Stewart (Victron Energy Staff) If I want to use a digital input in a custom python script in Venus should I set it to Disabled in the gui?
