I bought a Orion 12/24-10 converter, and installed today with intention to charge my 24v lifepo4 battery from the van. The lifepo4 battery was measured at 26.4volt and I set the Orion output at 27.3 volt. I was expecting the battery to draw the full 10amp from the van, but it turned out the charging current was close to zero (at 0.25amp). With that, this unit can not really serve as a battery charger as claimed in the user manual. Did I miss any setting? Thanks for any insight.
26.4v is pretty much full for a 24v Lifepo4 battery no? try again after using some energy...
26.4v is about 70% full. I set the charging volt at 27.3volt to get about 90% full.
I don’t know all the specifics but I’m pretty sure you need a higher charge voltage than that to get a full charge /or a long time....
Absorbtion voltage on the MPPT controllers is around 14.4v for lithium (28.8v for your case). “Float” is around 13.6/27.2
More testing today. Turn out that the low current I initially observed was likely caused by the volt drop in the wire. As I increase the output volt from the converter, the current did start flowing.
